Will Hoffenheim challenge the top 4?

After four consecutive league games without a win, TSG Hoffenheim celebrated an important 2-1 home victory over Borussia Dortmund, cutting the gap to fourth place to two points. The Sinsheim-based side still has its sights set on the Champions League and will certainly be playing for the win up north. After all, Hamburger SV has won only one of its last nine league games (three draws, five losses) and, following the recent 1-3 defeat in the North Derby, has found itself back in the relegation battle.

However, if the Rothosen’s tip for a home win against Hoffenheim comes through, their lead over the relegation spot could theoretically grow to as many as eight points, which would be a major step toward securing their place in the league.

However, the problem for the North Germans is not only their recent slump in form but also the absence of Tottenham loanee Luka Vuskovic. The 18-year-old center back is as much a ball-winner and rock-solid defender for the Rothosen as he is a top scorer. If he is also missing from this home game, there are likely to be major defensive problems against the goal-hungry Sinsheim side. Regardless of the outcome of the match, we therefore see a lot of value in the HSV vs. Hoffenheim prediction that the visitors from the Kraichgau will score at least two goals at the Volksparkstadion.

The Kraichgau side also brings a certain strength on the road. Only Bayern (39), Dortmund (29), and Leipzig (27) have earned more points away from home than TSG (26), which, in its recent 2-1 win over BVB, also celebrated its 16th Bundesliga win of the 2025/26 season, thereby matching the club’s own record from the 2016/17 season. Although they failed to secure an away win in their last two matches in Leipzig (0-5) and Augsburg (2-2), we still see value in betting on a win for the Sinsheim side.

HSV vs. Hoffenheim AI Prediction

While the AI acknowledges Hoffenheim’s status as favorites, its overall prediction for the HSV vs. Hoffenheim match points toward the Rothosen securing at least a point. For the Double Chance 1X, Betano is offering odds of 2.05, which translates to a probability of 48.8 percent. The AI, in turn, calculates a 50.9 percent chance for the Hanseatic side to score against TSG.

HSV – Stats & Current Form

Hamburger SV has consistently stayed above the relegation line throughout the 2025/26 season and, with four matchdays remaining, still holds a five-point lead over the relegation spot. Nevertheless, the situation is slightly tense, because a win in the North Derby could have theoretically secured the Rothosen’s survival, whereas now they must once again worry about their fate. It has not been uncommon for the Hanseatic side to lose their nerve in the final stretch of the 2. Bundesliga in recent seasons.

In fact, the Rothosen have won only one of their last nine Bundesliga matches (three draws, five losses) and have gone five games in a row without a win. Given this backdrop, we can’t really go along with the AI prediction and must generally advise against betting on Merlin Polzin’s team to earn a point in the HSV vs. Hoffenheim match.

HSV has recently struggled defensively

Much will certainly depend on whether Luka Vuskovic can play. The fact is, however, that HSV has come under massive pressure defensively in recent matches. In three of their last four league games, they conceded at least three goals. In total, they’ve conceded eleven goals during this period, which is the highest in the league and further reinforces our prediction of at least two away goals for Hoffenheim.

On top of that, the Bundesliga returnees are lacking in the small details, such as a clear plan for set pieces. The Rothosen scored just a single goal from corner kicks in the 2025/26 season. No other team in the league needed more corner kicks to score a goal. Furthermore, their pressing leaves much to be desired. HSV currently has the lowest figures in the league for pressing sequences and high ball recoveries.

Hoffenheim – Statistics & Current Form

After a very strong season overall, there was certainly some quiet excitement in the Kraichgau region about being able to play the Champions League anthem again on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. But then TSG Hoffenheim went winless in four consecutive league matches (two draws, two losses), even suffering a crushing 0-5 defeat at the hands of rival RB Leipzig, and fell somewhat behind in the race for the Champions League.

With a 2-1 home win over Borussia Dortmund, however, the Blue-Whites have now made a comeback and cut the gap to VfB Stuttgart to two points; Stuttgart will visit the Kraichgau on May 2 for the Baden-Württemberg derby. This makes it all the more important for TSG to stay in the hunt with an away win on the Alster.

Has Hoffenheim overcome its slump?

With their 16th Bundesliga win on Matchday 30, the Sinsheim-based side also set a new club record. The key to their success is undoubtedly the heading prowess of Christian Ilzer’s team. Thirteen goals scored with headers lead the league.

If HSV is missing Vuskovic, a center back with exceptional defensive heading ability, that would open the door even wider for TSG to secure an away win.

The Kraichgauers will certainly create chances in the Hanseatic city. Hardly any other Bundesliga team is more active in pressing. 436 pressing sequences and 247 high ball recoveries are standout figures across the league, and the 28 away goals scored also clearly underscore the Blue-Whites’ goal-scoring threat.

HSV – Hoffenheim Head-to-Head Record

Head to Head: 8 – 4 – 9

A total of 21 matches have taken place between the two teams so far, and the overall record is very even. Most recently, Hoffenheim defeated Hamburger SV twice in a row and also won the first leg in Kraichgau convincingly by a score of 4-1. However, in ten Bundesliga home games so far, the Rothosen have lost only twice to Hoffenheim (six wins, two draws).

HSV – Hoffenheim Prediction

According to the top bookmakers, the betting odds for HSV vs. Hoffenheim favor the Sinsheim side, who have earned 23 more points than the Hanseatic team so far this season, are having their second-best Bundesliga season ever, and—despite a slight dip in form—are back in the running for German Champions League spots following their 2-1 victory over Dortmund.

The Rothosen, on the other hand, need to lick their wounds as quickly as possible after losing the North Derby to avoid slipping back into a precarious position at the bottom of the table.

A bitter blow for Hamburg is the absence of Luka Vuskovic, who not only holds everything together at the back and ranks among the best center backs of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, but is also the North Germans’ top scorer with five goals. If he doesn’t recover in time for this Saturday night match, our prediction for the HSV vs. Hoffenheim game shifts even further in favor of the goal-hungry Kraichgauers.
