Will the Reds leave nothing to chance in Upper Austria?

Our LASK vs. Liverpool prediction focuses on two teams that have recently struggled domestically. LASK has qualified for the Champions League for the first time and is only the fifth Austrian club to compete in Europe’s premier club competition.

In the Bundesliga, however, the Landstraße side has gone winless in three straight matches (one draw, two losses). LFC, too, suffered a 0–3 home defeat against Manchester City in Sunday’s final warm-up match and has slipped to a deeply sobering ninth place in the Premier League.

At least in the Champions League, however, the Reds made a big impression when they beat Atlético Madrid 2–1 at Anfield on Matchday 1, which clearly tips our LASK vs. Liverpool prediction in LFC’s favor. The Upper Austrians, on the other hand, ultimately disappointed in their Champions League debut as well, losing 0–1 on the road to AEK Athens.

Nevertheless, LASK brings a lot of firepower to the attack. Even in the Europa League, the Landstraßler managed to score at least one goal against the Reds in their 1-3 home loss three years ago. Most scenarios can therefore be covered by the combined bet on over 2.5 goals with both teams scoring.

Nevertheless, overall, it’s more likely that the Reds will shake off their recent loss to the Cityzens in Upper Austria and secure a comfortable away win against the Landstraßler. The LASK vs. Liverpool odds for a -1 handicap on the Scousers are 1.65 at Bet-at-home, which certainly offers good value.

Those looking for higher odds even without a boost could bet at Bwin that LFC will win the match but concede at least one goal.

LASK vs. Liverpool AI Prediction

While from a human perspective we expect the Reds—who haven’t always been rock-solid defensively lately—to concede a goal in Upper Austria, making it very likely that both teams will score, the LASK vs. Liverpool AI prediction points to the exact opposite. According to the Betano app, odds of 2.10 are available for at least one team to keep a clean sheet, which implies a probability of just 47.6 percent.

That’s more than five percent higher and offers solid value on the betting slip. Nevertheless, the AI sees LFC as the overwhelming favorite and calculates a 75.9 percent chance of victory for the Reds in Upper Austria.

LASK – Statistics & Current Form

LASK got off to a disappointing start in its first Champions League season with a narrow 0–1 loss to AEK Athens. However, simply qualifying for the group stage was a historic achievement: In the playoffs, the Linz-based team came back from a 0–3 first-leg loss to Celtic Glasgow with a spectacular 5–1 victory in extra time. This makes LASK only the fifth Austrian club to compete in the Champions League.

Things haven’t quite gone according to plan in the Austrian Bundesliga lately. Following a 1-2 loss at Sturm Graz and a 3-3 draw at Hartberg before the international break, LASK suffered another 0-2 defeat on Sunday in their home dress rehearsal against Rapid Vienna—a result that further shifts our LASK vs. Liverpool prediction in favor of the Reds. In particular, the increasing strain from international matches and the lack of depth on the roster are causing Dietmar Kühbauer some concern.

LASK has been waiting a long time for a win in the European group stages

Their recent European record is also sobering. The sensational win against Celtic Glasgow was LASK’s only victory in their last 13 European matches (four draws, eight losses). Furthermore, the Upper Austrians have gone nine matches without a win in European group stages or league play.

Nevertheless, there is hope in Linz’s home form, as they have lost only two of their past 16 European home games (seven wins, seven draws), although none of these matches were played in a UEFA Champions League group stage. LASK is also still waiting for its first win against English teams. They also lost both previous matches against Liverpool in the 2023–24 Europa League season, by scores of 1–3 and 0–4.

Liverpool – Statistics & Current Form

Liverpool FC got off to a successful start in the new Champions League season with a hard-fought 2-1 home win against Atlético Madrid. In the Premier League, however, the Reds suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, falling 0–3 to Manchester City. The match, which had been evenly contested up to that point, only turned in Manchester City’s favor after Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute. Having already recorded three draws in their first five league games, the Scousers are currently in ninth place.

Under new coach Andoni Iraola, Liverpool is still in a phase of tactical development. The Spaniard relies on aggressive pressing and quick transitions, though the coordination between the different parts of the team doesn’t always run smoothly yet. Florian Wirtz’s new role also continues to spark debate, even though Iraola explicitly describes the German international as a key part of his offense.

Liverpool with Strong Finishes in the Champions League Group Stage

On the European stage, however, the Reds have been exceptionally reliable for years, which is why the odds for LASK vs. Liverpool clearly favor the visitors. The six-time Champions League (or European Cup) winner has won 19 of its last 22 Champions League matches in the group stage (three losses) and has also won its last three away games in this competition. In each of the past two seasons, the storied English club finished the group stage among the top three teams.

The head-to-head record against Austrian clubs also clearly favors the visitors. Liverpool has won eight of the ten previous matchups, including the last four away games in Austria. In the last Champions League season, the Reds reached the quarterfinals but were eliminated there with a 0–4 loss to Paris Saint-Germain. This marked the second consecutive season that the French capital club had ended Liverpool’s run.

LASK – Liverpool Head-to-Head Record

Head-to-Head: 0 – 0 – 2

In fact, the two teams have crossed paths once before in the UEFA Europa League. In the 2023–24 season, they were both in Group E. After a 3–1 away win in Upper Austria in the first leg, Liverpool FC followed it up with a comfortable 4–0 victory over LASK in the second leg at home at Anfield Road. Now, three years later, LASK has the chance for a rematch in the Champions League.

LASK – Liverpool Prediction

As the fifth Austrian club, LASK is now set to make its home debut in the UEFA Champions League—though they’ll be facing a true heavyweight at the Raiffeisen Arena. We don’t give the Upper Austrians much of a chance to earn their first point in the Champions League, especially since their current form could hardly be worse.

The Landstraße side hasn’t won any of its last four competitive matches (one draw, three losses). However, LFC is also arriving on the back of a rough patch. The Reds lost 0–3 to Manchester City at home on Sunday and are currently ninth in the Premier League.

Defensively, in particular, the Reds haven’t looked all that solid lately. Given this context, on the one hand, we consider a home goal by the Upper Austrians very likely; on the other hand, however, due to the far too low odds being offered for a Scousers’ away win, we’d rather steer clear of the simple three-way system. Our choice therefore falls on a high-scoring match. Here, we recommend the LASK vs. Liverpool bet on over 2.5 goals with both teams scoring.
