Will the Gunners squander their strong position?

Sunday brings a major showdown in the Premier League as the league leaders visit their closest pursuers. If the prediction of an away win for the Londoners holds true in the Manchester City vs. Arsenal match, it would effectively seal the 2026 Premier League title with a nine-point lead. However, if the Sky Blues—who still have a game in hand—manage to secure a home win, the Gunners’ currently substantial lead could vanish entirely. Consequently, there is a lot at stake for both sides.

In particular, the Sky Blues must play for the win. Their long home streak speaks to this. Although they suffered a 0-2 loss to Tottenham at the start of the season, Manchester City has since remained unbeaten in 14 consecutive Premier League home games (eleven wins, three draws), conceding only nine goals in the process.

But: Arsenal FC also knows how to defend. With just 24 goals conceded in 32 matches, the Gunners boast the best defense in the top flight of English soccer. Just this past Wednesday, Mikel Arteta’s men also secured a spot in the Champions League semifinals with a 0-0 draw against Sporting CP. Therefore, the prediction that this match will also see under 2.5 goals is very plausible.

However, much will also depend on the state of the Gunners’ nerves following their recent setbacks, having lost three consecutive competitive matches at the national level. In addition to the 0-2 loss to the Sky Blues in the EFL Cup final, there was the embarrassing FA Cup exit against second-division side Southampton, as well as the recent 1-2 home defeat in the Premier League against Bournemouth. The Londoners have just proven once again in the Champions League that they can be defensively solid, keeping a clean sheet in both quarterfinal matches.

Manchester City – Arsenal Head-to-Head Record

Head-to-Head: 66 – 48 – 101

A total of 215 matches have already taken place between the two teams, and with 101 wins, Arsenal FC leads the head-to-head record by a wide margin. The Gunners are currently unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches against Manchester City (two wins, three draws), but they were just defeated 0–2 by the Sky Blues in the EFL Cup final.

Away at the Etihad Stadium, they haven’t won a Premier League match in ten consecutive away games since 2015 (three draws, seven losses).

Manchester City – Arsenal Prediction

Basically, we certainly believe the Sky Blues are capable of making the championship race really exciting again with a home win. Nevertheless, we wouldn’t want to make a prediction on the outcome of the Manchester City vs. Arsenal match. Too often, the Gunners have kept a clean sheet with their aggressive defensive tactics and then secured all three points with their clinical finishing in front of the opponent’s goal during counterattacks, even though the opponent was clearly in control for the full 90 minutes. The Citizens did find a good solution to this in the EFL Cup final. In the Premier League, however, Manchester City has been waiting for a win against Arsenal for five matches now (three draws, two losses).

Given the current situation and the fact that the already very defensive Londoners would take a big step toward their first championship in 22 years with just a draw, we don’t expect a high-scoring match. We therefore recommend betting on under 2.5 goals, for which Betano is offering odds of 1.85 on Manchester City vs. Arsenal, and we’re placing four out of ten units on this bet.
