Will Altmaier gain new confidence on the ATP Tour?

Thanks to his preseason form, Daniel Altmaier started the 2026 calendar year ranked No. 44 in the ATP world rankings—the highest ranking of his professional tennis career to date. This was followed by a slump on the tour that has persisted right up to this Daniel Altmaier vs. Pedro Martinez match.

To prepare for the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the Australian Open, the Kempen native competed in the tournaments in Brisbane and Adelaide. That’s where the trouble began. Against both Kamil Majchrzak (6-7, 0-6) and Jaume Munar (3-6, 0-6), the German No. 2 lost a set without winning a single game. That won’t be repeated in our Daniel Altmaier vs. Pedro Martinez prediction.

His subsequent performances only deepened the crisis. The 27-year-old lost his first-round match against Marin Cilic decisively (0-6, 0-6, 6-7). Things haven’t improved since then in 2026. So far, the No. 52 in the ATP world rankings is still waiting for his first win at the tour level (0-8). He hasn’t even won a single set yet.

That said, the Daniel Altmaier vs. Pedro Martinez odds are still relatively favorable. Among the top sports betting providers, there are only slight differences between the win odds for the two opponents. Fortunately for the player from Kempen, the Spaniard is also still searching for his form.

In the first three months of the season, Pedro Martinez himself won no more than two matches on the tour. Most recently, both players opted to compete in Challenger tournaments. Altmaier reached the final in Naples but lost there to Hamad Medjedovic (2-4, 4-6).

Daniel Altmaier – Pedro Martinez Head-to-Head Record

The Spaniard has gained an advantage in their head-to-head record. In 2021, the two players faced off for the first time at the tour level. Pedro Martinez won the semifinal in Kitzbühel after losing the first set (4-6, 6-3, 6-3). Three years later, the Alzira-born pro once again came out on top in their match in Estoril (6-4, 6-2).

Just like the two previous matches, the next encounter between Daniel Altmaier and Pedro Martinez will take place on clay—the preferred surface for both players. Yet even on this surface, the player from Kempen (6-9) and the Spaniard (7-11) have built up a negative ATP tournament record over the last 52 weeks.

Daniel Altmaier – Pedro Martinez Prediction

Both pros’ confidence has taken a hit.

Neither Altmaier (0-8) nor Martinez (2-5) are satisfied with their performances and results on the tour so far in the 2026 calendar year. Yet both athletes had worked their way into the top 50 in the world last season.

Currently, Altmaier (52nd) and Pedro Martinez (113th) are once again ranked outside the top 50. The Spaniard is the more consistent player and has achieved a significantly higher return rating on clay courts over the past 52 weeks compared to the German (124.3).

In contrast, Altmaier was able to rely much more heavily on his serve. With a service rating of 249.7 over the past 52 weeks on clay, he has performed better than his Spanish opponent (241.4). We can envision a back-and-forth match in which the player from Kempen secures his first set win of the ATP season.
