Will the team from the capital fly the German flag high?
The team from the capital won their semifinal against Magdeburg, knocking the defending champions out of the competition. At the same time, the handballers from the Spree successfully avenged their loss in last year’s Champions League final against SC!
The victory over the reigning German champions was impressive from an offensive standpoint: Berlin scored no fewer than 40 goals against Magdeburg, with a collective shooting percentage of around 74 percent!
Once again, Mathias Gidsel was particularly efficient: The 27-year-old Dane scored nine goals against SC alone and, as so often, impressively demonstrated his offensive qualities.
With 153 goals to his name, the backcourt player leads the league in scoring this Champions League season. Given this, we’re betting on the Bundesliga side to score more than 32.5 goals again in the final between Füchse Berlin and Barcelona.
Furthermore, we generally don’t expect a shortage of goals, as FCB also boasts a strong offense. In contrast, both teams have been only moderately convincing defensively in the past two semifinal matches, conceding 35 and 32 goals, respectively.
The Füchse Berlin vs. Barcelona betting odds on at least five goals by Luis Frade on the opposing side also seem worthwhile. The Portuguese player delivered a strong performance in the semifinal against Aalborg and, with seven goals, scored the second-most goals on the “Cologne court” after Gomez (8)!
Füchse Berlin – Barcelona Head-to-Head Record
The teams last faced each other at the Super Globe, the 2023 Club World Championship in Saudi Arabia. Back then, the Füchse narrowly defeated the Blaugrana 35-34 in the semifinals.
Looking back over a broader period, however, it’s clear that the matchup is very evenly balanced. Both teams have three wins and three losses in their last six meetings.
Füchse Berlin – Barcelona Prediction
Coach Max Rinderle’s squad may not have been able to defend their Bundesliga title this season, but they did at least win the DHB Cup. Now, on top of that, the Champions League title beckons.
It would be the first time in the club’s history that Berlin has won the Champions League, after reaching the final against Magdeburg last year. The fact that they defeated the defending champions in yesterday’s semifinal of the current Champions League edition and scored a whopping 40 goals has, of course, given the men from the Max-Schmeling-Halle a significant confidence boost.
However, in the Final Four final starting at 6:00 p.m., they’ll face another absolute powerhouse in Barcelona. The Catalans have been Spanish champions every year since 2011 and are the competition’s record-holders with twelve titles! They’ve also recently dominated the Champions League with three wins in the last five years and a streak of eight consecutive Final Four appearances.
The roster also features top players in abundance, such as France’s Dika Mem and former Lemgo player Jonathan “Louis” Carlsbogård from Sweden, both of whom play in the backcourt. The goalkeeper position is also well-staffed with the Danish player Emil Nielsen.
However, the Spaniards struggled in the semifinals against Aalborg and only reached the final after overtime against Coach Simon Dahl’s team from North Jutland. We therefore expect another close match and believe the Füchse are capable of another strong offensive performance. Against this backdrop, we see sufficient value in the betting odds for the match between Füchse Berlin and Barcelona, with the Bundesliga side scoring more than 32.5 goals once again.
