Will Fradi seal the deal?

Thanks to last Thursday’s 2-1 away win in Novi Sad, the odds are looking good for Ferencvaros Budapest to advance past the first round of Europa League qualifying against Vojvodina. The Serbian runner-up put up a spirited fight, though. However, returnee Dejan Zukic was not yet able to make the desired impact in the attacking third. The playmaker—who earned his spot on the senior national team while playing in Wolfsberg—will now be key in the second leg in Budapest, as the Belo-crveni (meaning “the White-Reds”) desperately need goals to avoid an early elimination.

History clearly does not favor FK Vojvodina, which, despite having played 106 international competitive matches, has never before reached the group or league stage of a UEFA competition. In fact, they have lost all of their last four European away games. Nevertheless, the Belo-crveni must give it their all. Given that things didn’t go entirely smoothly for the Hungarians in the first leg—which marked their first competitive match under new coach Ballázs Borbély—an away goal is certainly a possibility. Accordingly, the prediction that both teams will score in the second leg of the Ferencváros Budapest vs. Vojvodina match offers us significant value.

On the other hand, we no longer believe the Serbs can pull off a turnaround. It’s also quite conceivable that, in a potentially high-scoring second leg, the home-strong Fradi will once again score the first goal. They’ve managed to do so in six of their last seven competitive matches. In the first leg, the 1-0 lead came as early as the eighth minute, before a Gómez own goal shortly before halftime temporarily leveled the score.

Once again, two goals in the first half are conceivable. If you’re looking for higher odds on the Ferencváros Budapest vs. Vojvodina match, you can bet on over 1.5 goals in the first half at odds of 2.10, which we found in the Betano app.

Ferencvaros Budapest – Vojvodina Head-to-Head Record

Head-to-Head: 1 – 0 – 0

Last Thursday’s first leg in Novi Sad was the first and only meeting between the two teams in a competitive international match. Thanks to their 2-1 victory in Serbia, Ferencvaros Budapest leads the head-to-head record. Overall, this was Fradi’s seventh competitive match against a Serbian club (five wins, one draw, one loss).

Ferencvaros Budapest – Vojvodina Prediction

In terms of competitive intensity, the Serbs—whose season kicks off this weekend—are likely to have a slight advantage, although they lack the same level of team chemistry as the Hungarians. This is due to the fact that squad planning is proceeding extremely slowly.

If you count the players returning from loan—who either need to be reintegrated into the club or, due to the current squad depth (there are currently 43 players on the first-team roster), must be loaned out again—Coach Miroslav Tanjga currently has to integrate 19 new faces into the new system under Dejan Zukic, who was born in Novi Sad and has returned to the club.

Generally speaking, we expect Fradi not to let too many chances slip by. However, the Hungarians have also undergone a shake-up following their failure to win the championship, which will take some time to settle. We therefore don’t consider it very likely that the Zöld sasok (English: the Green Eagles) will keep a clean sheet. That’s why there’s good value in betting that both teams will score in the second leg as well.
