How much trouble will the Yellow Submarine face in Asturias?

With seven games remaining and 21 points up for grabs, Real Oviedo still has a mathematical chance of avoiding relegation. However, for the Carbayones to make up the six-point deficit to safety, a lot would have to go their way. And yet, the promoted side from Asturias has found a second wind and won three of their last four league matches (one loss). However, it is rather unlikely that a bet on a home win for the Azules will pay off in Oviedo against Villarreal. After all, the Yellow Submarine (Spanish: el submarino amarillo), currently third in the table, is coming to town.

The visitors from Spain’s east coast are currently on course for the Champions League, though they haven’t won any of their last three away games in La Liga (one draw, two losses). Nevertheless, the Yellow Submarine doesn’t lack the necessary firepower, boasting the third-best offense in Spain’s top flight with 56 goals. However: Although Oviedo sits at the bottom of the table, they have conceded just 14 goals at home, a figure surpassed by only five teams in the league. In particular, a result like 0-0 or 1-1 should not be categorically ruled out, which is why we recommend the combined bet of Double Chance X2 and Under 3.5 Goals.

In general, there have been very few high-scoring matches at Estadio Carlos Tartiere. After all, those 14 home goals conceded are offset by just seven goals scored, making Oviedo by far the weakest home offense in La Liga. Curiously, those seven home goals were still enough for four home wins. Anyone who, given this background, wouldn’t rule out another narrow 1-0 win for the Carbayones can alternatively bet on a low-scoring match in Asturias.

Oviedo – Villarreal Head-to-Head Record

Head to Head: 1 – 4 – 4

Only nine competitive matches have taken place between the two teams, with four of those matches dating back to two shared seasons in Spain’s second-tier league between 1970 and 1972. In La Liga, there have been a total of five meetings, in which Villarreal remained completely unbeaten (three wins, two draws). The Yellow Submarine has won all of its last three matches against Real Oviedo—including the first leg of the 2025/26 season (2–0).

Oviedo – Villarreal Prediction

On paper, the prediction for Oviedo vs. Villarreal should favor the third-place team from Spain’s east coast, though they have gone winless in three consecutive away games (one draw, two losses) and now face a team that, with just 14 goals conceded, boasts the sixth-best home defense in La Liga. Although the Carbayones remain firmly rooted at the bottom of the table, they have won three of their last four La Liga matches (one loss)—including their last two home games against Sevilla and Valencia, both of which ended in narrow 1-0 victories.

Much will depend on whether the eastern Spaniards’ offense can break through the Carbayones’ defensive wall in Asturias. We’re generally expecting them to do so, but in what’s likely to be a low-scoring match, we’d be reluctant to rule out the possibility of a draw. With a 15-point lead over fifth place, the Yellow Submarine isn’t under too much pressure anymore.

We therefore recommend the match combo of Double Chance X2 with under 3.5 goals, for which Betano is offering odds of 1.75 on Oviedo vs. Villarreal, which we’re betting on with four out of ten units.
