Will the Hamburg native repeat last year’s victory?
The upset continues at the 2026 French Open: Following Jannik Sinner’s sensational exit, another top player—Novak Djokovic—was knocked out last Friday. Djokovic, seeded No. 3, had been dreaming of his 25th Grand Slam title in Paris. The path now seems clear for the Hamburg native’s first Grand Slam title, and we have a prediction for the Round of 16: Alexander Zverev vs. Jesper de Jong!
The Hamburg native has shown little weakness on the Seine so far, losing only one set in his three matches at this year’s French Open. Now he faces an opponent who, for his part, only made it into the main draw after successfully qualifying. Moreover, the Dutchman had to go the distance in five sets in the last round before defeating his opponent, Karen Khachanov.
The match lasted around four and a half hours and, as a result, took a tremendous toll on his energy. Given this situation, we’re predicting another straight-sets 3-0 victory for the German in the match between Alexander Zverev and Jesper de Jong.
Alexander Zverev – Jesper de Jong Head-to-Head Record
The last time they faced off was almost exactly a year ago, also at the French Open. In that match, Zverev prevailed in four sets in the second round.
Although he lost the first set, he had little trouble with his opponent afterward. This is evident from the fact that Zverev lost only six games in the following three sets.
Thanks to this victory, the Hamburg native now boasts a perfect record of two wins after two meetings. The odds also clearly favor the German in the upcoming match between Alex Zverev and Jesper de Jong.
Jesper de Jong – Alexander Zverev Prediction
In 2023, Alex Zverev was already very close to the title at the French Open: only a loss in the final to Carlos Alcaraz prevented him from winning the first Grand Slam title of his career.
Now, however, his chances of winning the tournament in the French capital seem greater than ever. The two top players, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz—the latter of whom didn’t even compete due to injury—are no longer in the main draw, and veteran Novak Djokovic is the only other player from the top 5 in the world rankings to have been eliminated.
Zverev’s strong form is another factor in his favor. In the current clay-court season, he has lost no more than four of 20 matches—curiously, all against Italian players: Jannik Sinner (2), Luciano Darderi, and Flavio Cobolli.
His consistent form is now also evident in Paris: in the first three rounds, the world No. 3 has dropped just one set. In light of these points, we believe the betting odds for a win by the Hamburg native without dropping a set are a good bet in the match between Alex Zverev and Jesper de Jong!
